Sofia Elections: 1 November 2005, Tuesday.

The Union of the Democratic Forces has always defined itself as an opposition of the Socialist party and we would not like Sofia to have a leftist mayor, UDF leader Petar Stoyanov said, thus vowing support to race leader Boyko Borissov.

Stoyanov also explained that the results from the Sofia mayor elections are a "very harsh defeat" for the rightist party. On Saturday the UDF candidate Minko Gerdzhikov received the support of 4,95% of the voters.

Also on Tuesday, Stoyanov did not accept the resignations of UDF deputy chairs Stefan Ivanov and Ivan Sotirov, which were filed because of the defeat at the October 29 elections.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day another party that backed UDFG candidate the nationalistic Gergyovden.
