Former Foreign Minister General Lyubomir Gotsev, Ivan Todorov- the Doctor, charged with money laundry, and the businessman Nikola Damyanov have been the targets of the masterminded by the brothers Krassimir and Nikolay Marinov murders.

The news was broken by the Bulgarian National Radio, which cited sources of the Interior Ministry as saying that the Marguins were preparing assaults against Gotsev, Todorov and Damyanov.

Bulgaria\’s Prosecutor Office has pressed charges against the brothers Krassimir and Nikolay Marinov for masterminding two attempted murders and joining an organized crime group, Sofia City Prosecutor Boyko Naydenov said.

The two brothers, dubbed the Marguins, were seized late on Friday evening for 24 hours. On Saturday the arrest was extended with three more days. They have been questioned over the charges pressed on them.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the police has busted a crime gang dealing with contract murders, which included two men that were to execute the targets of the Marguins.

According to Deputy Chief Prosecutor Nikolay Kokinov business interests were the main motives for the planned murders

The first target of the Marguins Lyubomir Gotsev is an officer working with the Security Services. Gotsev is also a member of the Community Council working with the Interior Ministry.

Suspected underworld boss Ivan Todorov, nicknamed Doktora ("the doctor") was said to be the second target of the Mrguins. He became a household name in Bulgaria after a failed attempt on his life back in 2003. He is also being charged for money laundry.

The third target Nikola Damyanov is businessman working in the banking sphere, the tourism and insurances field.

Police sources have repeatedly fingered the two brothers as prominent figures from the underworld, but no lawsuit has been filed against them so far.

The detention of the two brothers came in the wake of the public execution of Bulgaria\’s biggest banking boss Emil Kyulev. The mogul was one of the richest people in Bulgaria, but had no security guards to accompany his throughout the day. He was gunned down at a busy Sofia thoroughfare on October.

After the killing, the state pledged to step up the combat against organized crime.

The Marinovs are one of the founders of SIC, a now defunct 1990s strong-arm structure.
