Police sources have repeatedly fingered the two brothers as prominent figures from the underworld, but no lawsuit has been filed against them so far.

The mogul was one of the richest people in Bulgaria, but had no security guards to accompany his throughout the day. He was gunned down at a busy Sofia thoroughfare on October.

After the killing, the state pledged to step up the combat against organized crime.

The Marinovs are one of the founders of SIC, a now defunct 1990s strong-arm structure.
