Bulgaria\’s Economy and Energy Minister said Tuesday at a meeting with local tobacco manufacturers that their business had a present and a future within the EU.
Ovcharov added that the government wanted to protect local manufacturers from the so-called dumping import. As an example he mentioned of an attempted import of Marlboro cigarettes at the price of BGN 3.20.
"Bulgartabak Holding" and its subsidiaries have ended the first nine months of 2005 with an income of BGN 73.8 M, while "Sofia BT" has realized a BGN 13 M profit for the same period, surpassing its gain for the whole previous year by BGN 2 M.
Bulgartabak Chairman Georgi Kostov commented that the satisfying numbers were due to the consolidation in the Holding, claiming that the meeting with Ovcharov aimed at continuing such restructuring.
