Romania: Bulgarian Mafia Threatens Our EU Accession

Filed under: Politics, Politics - Bulgarolog @ 7:03 am

An article in the Romanian newspaper “Averea” quotes the country’s Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu in saying that Bulgarian mafia threatens Romania’s EU accession.

Taricenau stated Tuesday that the problems that Bulgaria faces can slow down Romania’s accession process. Bulgaria is witnessing a boom in organized crime and corruption that have reached alarming levels, he added, and this may trigger a precautionary clause in the case that Bulgaria proves unable to catch up on solving these problems.

Romania should demonstrate solidarity with the neighbours that were ahead of it earlier in the race, Taricenau said, and added that the country should help Bulgaria fulfil the requirements so both neighbours enter the EU together.

The newspaper also claims that Bulgarian Justice Minister Georgi Petkanov retorted by saying that the country will do everything possible in the little remaining time.
